The Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated its dedication to addressing food insecurity and enhancing welfare provisions for disadvantaged residents. Speaking in Uyo during the formal launch of a new regional NGO, state officials emphasized that social protection remains a cornerstone of the current administration's developmental framework.

Princess Emem Ibanga, the state commissioner for humanitarian affairs, stated that billions of naira have been directed toward social intervention projects over the past three years. She explained that the administration operates through a structured humanitarian governance model designed to integrate vulnerable populations into broader government policies, encompassing housing, youth empowerment, healthcare access, and disaster response.

The commissioner addressed attendees during the inauguration of the EL ZAIN Women, Children and Peace Development Initiative held at IBOM LED along IBB Avenue. She commended the organization for completing its official registration with the ministry and encouraged its leadership to maintain alignment with state coordination frameworks to maximize the reach of its welfare projects.

Paul Usoro, SAN, who chaired the launch event, praised the collaborative approach required to address community needs, calling on stakeholders to offer both material and spiritual backing to the newly unveiled foundation. The founder, Dr. Zeinab Akpan, noted that the initiative aims to advance gender equality, educational development, and peacebuilding in accordance with international sustainable development standards.

Planned interventions by the foundation include micro-business grants for selected female entrepreneurs, medical expense assistance, and academic awards for outstanding students. Retired Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan, serving as the executive director of the initiative, affirmed that the organization intends to expand its operational scope through strategic partnerships across various local government areas.
