The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has officially inaugurated a 600-member campaign council to drive its preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial elections. During the inauguration event held in Port Harcourt, the state party chairman, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, formally presented the leadership and various directorates of the team, charging all members to execute their duties diligently, faithfully, and in strict adherence to party and national laws.
The newly established council will be led by Senator Andrew Uchendu as chairman, while Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo has been appointed to serve as the Director-General. Party leadership emphasized the need for a cohesive, disciplined, and result-oriented structure capable of taking the party's message down to the grassroots across all local government areas in the state.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Uchendu expressed strong criticism of the current political climate in Rivers State, alleging that governance had suffered due to prolonged political crises and godfatherism. He maintained that the party aims to restore institutional independence among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, while prioritizing basic public services such as healthcare and education.
The council leadership pledged to pursue a peaceful, non-violent, and issue-based campaign designed to unite residents and rescue the state from political paralysis. Members were urged to carry the party's message of reform and inclusive governance to every unit, ward, and local government area in the state as preparations for the electoral contest continue.
