An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Bayelsa State, Festus Daumiebi Sunday, has publicly cautioned the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief George Turnah, over recent remarks directed at Governor Douye Diri. Sunday described the comments made by the opposition party chairman as dishonourable, condemnable, and contrary to the cultural values upheld by the Ijaw people.

In a media statement released over the weekend, the APC chieftain called for an immediate end to personal insults, urging political actors to embrace issue-based campaigns ahead of upcoming electoral contests. Sunday argued that political disagreements should never degenerate into derogatory remarks against the sitting governor, who serves as a primary political figure in the region.

Reflecting on his own past electoral experiences, Sunday noted that he previously contested against Governor Diri during the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District race in 2019 and remained a principal actor during the 2020 governorship election. He asserted that throughout those competitive campaigns, he maintained a respectful approach without resorting to personal abuse against his political opponents.

Sunday also addressed broader political dynamics in the state, including discussions surrounding party coalitions and presidential support structures leading up to the 2027 general election. He maintained that the ruling party holds strong grassroots appeal across the local government areas of the state and dismissed suggestions that external political alliances were necessary for securing electoral success.

Concluding his remarks, the APC chieftain appealed to community leaders in Ogbia Local Government Area to counsel the PDP chairman regarding his public conduct. He emphasized that traditional Ijaw cultural norms strictly forbid the disrespect of elders and leaders, regardless of any underlying political differences or disagreements.
