A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has appealed to political opposition figures to refrain from continuous criticism of President Bola Tinubu regarding the nation's economic difficulties. Speaking through a media statement released in Osogbo, the former state legislator emphasized that the current administration requires strong encouragement from citizens as it navigates complex financial reforms.
Oyintiloye acknowledged that the current economic hardship has placed a heavy burden on many Nigerians but insisted that the President should not be held solely responsible for foundational financial problems inherited upon taking office. He defended major structural policies introduced by the federal administration, including the cessation of the petrol subsidy and the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market, describing them as essential steps toward long-term stabilization.
According to the former lawmaker, these bold decisions were designed to overhaul a battered national economy and are already beginning to show positive trajectories. He cautioned political critics against weaponizing temporary economic discomfort for partisan campaigns ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections, arguing that prospective alternative candidates lack proven track records superior to the current leadership.
At the same time, Oyintiloye urged the federal government to intensify its efforts in alleviating the suffering of vulnerable populations. He specifically recommended a comprehensive review of existing social intervention programs and the reinforcement of supportive economic measures to cushion the impact of ongoing reforms on everyday citizens across the country.
