INEC Has Not Determined Date to Release Updated Candidates List

The Independent National Electoral Commission has stated that a release date has not been set for the publication of an updated list of candidates for upcoming elections. The commission is currently processing corrections and complaints submitted by political parties and candidates following previous omissions and legal disputes.

Earlier, the initial publication of candidates for the National Assembly included individuals affected by rulings related to the Electoral Act, while certain candidates for governorship and state legislature positions were excluded. This discrepancy led to protests and formal complaints from several political groups, prompting the electoral body to provide a submission window for affected stakeholders.

Victoria Eta-Mesi, the Director of Information and Voter Education at the commission, indicated that all submitted corrections and relevant court orders are being incorporated. A senior official within the electoral agency noted that submissions are being evaluated individually on their legal merits and in accordance with the constitution and electoral regulations.

Meanwhile, internal administrative processes and ongoing litigations continue to influence candidate documentation for various political platforms. The electoral commission maintains that it will release the revised compilation once administrative reviews and legal evaluations are fully completed.
