Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has stated that effective law enforcement and crime prevention require a collaborative approach involving all residents. Speaking at a security stakeholders summit organized by the Imo State Police Command and the Police Community Relations Committee in the Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area, the governor highlighted the necessity of grassroots participation in maintaining public safety.
Represented at the gathering by the Chief Principal Security Officer to the Governor, Shaba Adamu Gboyako, the state administration reaffirmed its commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies. Officials stressed that community members must remain engaged and provide reliable information to help authorities combat criminal activities across the state.
During the summit, law enforcement representatives urged local stakeholders to view themselves as active partners in security. The state Commissioner of Police, represented by Ota Kelechi, encouraged residents to support police operations and treat local security concerns with shared responsibility. Authorities also called upon vigilante organizations to carry out their duties fairly without causing undue fear or injustice within neighborhoods.
Local police leadership echoed these sentiments, noting that traditional rulers, youth leaders, religious figures, and landlords all play a vital role in guiding younger generations away from criminal behavior. Participants agreed that constructive engagement and intelligence gathering through community networks remain essential for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
