The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended personnel of the Nigerian Army's 4 Brigade for their professionalism and discipline in maintaining security across Edo State. The commendation was delivered during his maiden operational visit to the Brigade Headquarters located in Benin City.
Addressing the assembled soldiers, Shaibu assured them that leadership is prioritizing personnel welfare under a strategic agenda focused on improving working and living conditions. He outlined plans to renovate soldiers' barracks to ensure comfortable housing and announced the provision of a new transport bus to ease movement challenges faced by the formation.
In addition to housing and logistics, the Army chief underscored the importance of accessible healthcare. He reaffirmed that troops and their families will receive robust medical support, including dedicated health services for their children, linking overall service welfare directly to enhanced operational performance.
While promising continued support, Shaibu challenged the personnel to reciprocate through steadfast loyalty, strict discipline, and adherence to the rule of law. He urged them to protect innocent civilians, respect human rights, and take decisive action against criminal elements within their assigned area of responsibility.
Earlier in the visit, the Commander of 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, delivered a comprehensive security and administrative briefing to the Army chief. The visit concluded with ceremonial activities, including the signing of the visitors' book, a tree-planting exercise, and the presentation of souvenirs.
