SUCCESSFUL PASSOVER (PESACH) CELEBRATION ACROSS NIGERIA
The Jewish community in Nigeria has recorded a remarkable and unified celebration of Pesach (Passover) 2026, as over 46 Jewish communities across the country received Matzot and wine to support their observance of the sacred festival.
This historic initiative was spearheaded by Yatov Ben Yisrael (Engr. Jator Abido), the Nigeria Representative to the Sub-Saharan Jewish Alliance (SAJA), with generous contributions and support from the organization Kulanu, known globally for its commitment to assisting emerging and returning Jewish communities.
Speaking after the successful distribution, Engr. Jator Abido expressed profound gratitude to all coordinators and volunteers who ensured the seamless execution of the project across various states. He specifically commended the efforts of:
- Akwa Ibom State – Mr. Rishon
- Imo State – Miss Precious
- Lagos State – Mr. Fortune
- Delta State – Mr. Jefe
- FCT Abuja – Mr. Shemuel
- Rivers State – Elder Amrah
- Ebonyi State – Mr. Nathan
- Abia State – Ima Hadasa
- Enugu State – Mr. Ebenezer
- Anambra State – Avraham
Special recognition was also given to dedicated contributors including Avraham Ben Avraham, Rosh Emmanuel, Miss Chokhmah, Madam Molly, Mrs. Catering, Khadmiel, and many others whose collective efforts ensured the success of the 2026 Pesach celebration nationwide.
Engr. Jator Abido, a prominent leader within the Nigerian Jewish community, reiterated his longstanding commitment to the growth, development, and proper practice of Judaism in Nigeria. He called for greater unity among Jews worldwide, urging all Jewish communities across Africa to serve as ambassadors of positive change, development, and nation-building.
In his message, he encouraged prayers for Nigeria, emphasizing the need to seek divine wisdom and protection for the nation’s leadership, including the President, for effective governance and national progress.
He further urged members of the Jewish community to actively participate in civic responsibilities by obtaining their voter registration cards, enabling them to both vote and be voted for in shaping the future of the country.
Highlighting the spiritual significance of the season, he encouraged Jews to remain steadfast during the period of Counting of the Omer, describing it as a time of purification, growth, and preparation for freedom and success.
The celebration concluded with a collective call for peace in Nigeria and across the world, reinforcing the core values of faith, unity, and resilience that define the Passover season.
