UNITY IN FAITH: NIGERIA JEWISH COMMUNITIES MARK 2026 PESACH WITH COORDINATED NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION

The Nigerian Jewish community has recorded a unified and remarkable celebration of Pesach (Passover) 2026, as more than 46 Jewish communities across the country received matzot and wine to support the observance of the sacred festival.

The initiative was spearheaded by Yatov Ben Yisrael (Engr. Jator Abido), Nigeria Representative to the Sub-Saharan Jewish Alliance (SAJA), with support from Kulanu, an international organization dedicated to assisting emerging and returning Jewish communities.

Speaking after the successful distribution, Engr. Abido expressed gratitude to coordinators and volunteers who ensured seamless execution across multiple states. He commended representatives including: Akwa Ibom State – Mr. Rishon; Imo State – Miss Precious; Lagos State – Mr. Fortune; Delta State – Mr. Jefe; FCT Abuja – Mr. Shemuel; Rivers State – Elder Amrah; Ebonyi State – Mr. Nathan; Abia State – Ima Hadasa; Enugu State – Mr. Ebenezer; and Anambra State – Avraham.

Special recognition was also given to contributors such as Avraham Ben Avraham, Rosh Emmanuel, Miss Chokhmah, Madam Molly, Mrs. Catering, Khadmiel, and others whose efforts ensured nationwide success of the 2026 Pesach celebration.

Engr. Abido reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Judaism in Nigeria and called for greater unity among Jewish communities across Africa. He urged them to act as ambassadors of peace, development, and nation-building.

He further encouraged prayers for Nigeria, asking for divine wisdom and protection for national leadership, including the President, to ensure effective governance and progress.

He also called on members of the Jewish community to participate actively in civic responsibilities by obtaining voter registration cards, enabling them to vote and be voted for in shaping the nation’s future.

Highlighting the spiritual significance of the season, he described the Counting of the Omer as a period of purification, growth, and preparation for freedom and success.

The celebration concluded with a collective call for peace in Nigeria and globally, reinforcing the values of faith, unity, and resilience that define Passover.

Peace and unity remain the guiding principles always.
