Former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state have strongly condemned the alleged assault on popular comedian and Master of Ceremonies Mr Osagie Idieda by suspected hoodlums. The entertainer, widely known as MC Porkupyne, was reportedly targeted while returning from a social event on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Reports indicate that the victim is known as a critic of the ruling administration.
In a personally signed statement released in Benin City, Mr Obaseki denounced the incident as a reprehensible act of violence that threatens public safety and democratic values. He announced that he would personally cover the victim's medical bills and called for the swift arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators. The former governor stressed that electoral violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic society, warning that such acts could embolden criminality if left unchecked by law enforcement.
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party also issued a statement describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable. The party chairman, Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor, emphasized that freedom of expression remains a fundamental right and that political disagreements should never be settled through physical brutality. The party urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to bring both the direct assailants and any potential sponsors to justice.
Both political figures called upon stakeholders across the political spectrum to exercise restraint and reject thuggery. They stressed that the protection of human lives and the preservation of peace must remain paramount to ensure that citizens can freely express their views without fear of assault or intimidation.
