The Nigeria Premier Football League has handed down strict disciplinary sanctions to Warri Wolves following severe security breaches and unruly supporter behavior during their recent league fixture. The disciplinary measures come in the wake of a tumultuous Matchday 10 encounter against Kano Pillars held in Ozoro, which ended in controversy and violence.
According to league authorities, the club failed to maintain adequate security protocols within the stadium premises. This lapse in safety measures culminated in a physical assault directed at match officials immediately after the final whistle blew. Officials reported that the second assistant referee suffered a broken nose and sustained visible bleeding during the altercation.
As a consequence of these infractions, the league administration has imposed a financial penalty of 4.2 million naira on the club. Furthermore, league organizers decided to dock three points and three goals from Warri Wolves' accumulated tally for the season, significantly impacting their standing in the league table.
In addition to the financial and points penalties, Warri Wolves must play their next three home matches behind closed doors without supporters in attendance. The club has been granted a strict window of forty-eight hours from the issuance of the notice to officially appeal the sanctions if they choose to contest the league's decision.
