The Nigerian Navy has successfully uncovered approximately 132,000 litres of a substance suspected to be stolen crude oil in Rivers State. The illicit petroleum products were found stored across ten dugout pits located within the Allison community in the Bonny Local Government Area.
According to an official statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the discovery was made on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Personnel from the Forward Operating Base Bonny, operating under Operation Delta Sentinel, acted on actionable intelligence regarding suspicious petroleum activities in the region to locate the hidden site.
Naval authorities noted that the operation successfully disrupted a key storage point within the illegal petroleum supply chain. The site was reportedly being used to conceal stolen crude oil prior to any unauthorized processing or distribution. Officials emphasized that intelligence-led raids remain critical in dismantling the infrastructure supporting crude oil theft and illegal refining.
The Navy has called on community leaders, traditional institutions, and local residents to report any suspicious storage facilities or unauthorized movement of petroleum products to security agencies. This latest enforcement action follows a series of similar operations conducted across the Niger Delta to combat pipeline vandalism and unlawful bunkering.
