The Bayelsa State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, George Turnah, has strongly denied receiving any contracts from the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Speaking during a party meeting in Yenagoa, Turnah challenged critics to produce documentation proving that he benefited from government projects during the former president's tenure.
Turnah maintained that he neither secured contracts directly nor through intermediaries during the six years of the Jonathan administration. He also addressed separate accusations regarding his time as a special assistant at the Niger Delta Development Commission and denied claims that he had ever been convicted of financial crimes, challenging anyone asserting otherwise to present official court records.
Shifting focus to state affairs, the PDP chairman criticized the Bayelsa State Government over its expenditures related to the region's 30th-anniversary celebrations. He urged Governor Douye Diri's administration to publish a comprehensive financial breakdown of the funds spent on the milestone event.
Turnah argued that public funds should be prioritized toward addressing pressing socioeconomic challenges faced by residents, such as hunger, healthcare deficiencies, and educational hurdles. He further asserted that the state legislature needed to strengthen its oversight responsibilities regarding public expenditures.
