Nigerian champions Edo Queens have submitted an official petition to the Confederation of African Football requesting the annulment of the continuation of the WAFU B Women's Champions League final match against Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC. The initial fixture took place on September 5, 2026, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, concluding in a two-all draw after regulation time before Edo Queens reportedly secured a four-one victory in the penalty shoot-out.
Subsequent rulings by the CAF Organising Committee on September 26, 2026, which were later upheld by the CAF Appeal Board on October 16, determined that the penalty shoot-out lacked sporting effect. Consequently, football authorities ordered the contest to resume from the start of extra time with the score tied at two goals apiece.
In their petition, Edo Queens outlined three primary legal and procedural grounds challenging the continuation of the match. The club raised serious concerns regarding an unauthorized venue relocation from Ouagadougou to Cairo, Egypt, arguing that the change occurred without proper confirmation from WAFU B as mandated by existing tournament regulations.
Furthermore, the Nigerian club alleged that tournament organizers failed to maintain fair sporting conditions. Representatives stated that the team was barred from fielding eligible players who had participated in the original fixture in Burkina Faso. Additional grievances involved lodging arrangements that placed the delegation inside a military facility instead of standard hospitality accommodations, alongside insufficient official communication regarding kick-off schedules and match logistics.
Following the controversial continuation played in Cairo, Edo Queens ultimately suffered a one-nil defeat in extra time. In response to these developments, the club has urged CAF to invalidate the October fixture and order a complete ninety-minute replay at the original venue, or alternatively declare Edo Queens the rightful winners of the regional tournament should scheduling conflicts prevent a full replay before the continental championship commences.
