Investigators probing the recent ATR-42 aircraft accident in Igbokoda, Ondo State, have achieved a significant breakthrough with the recovery of the aircraft's Cockpit Voice Recorder. Technical teams comprising personnel from the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau confirmed that the critical device was retrieved intact from the accident site.

The update was formally announced through a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force. According to the release, the recovery operation also yielded a portion of the Flight Data Recorder, commonly known as the black box. Specialized search and recovery teams are continuing their efforts to locate and retrieve the remaining parts of the data recorder.

In addition to the flight recorders, search teams operating within the difficult swamp terrain have recovered additional aircraft wreckage, engine components, and human remains. Officials noted that operations in the challenging environment require meticulous coordination and professional expertise to ensure all outstanding components are safely retrieved for technical examination.

The recovery process is incorporating careful protocols for handling human remains, with the Directorate of Identification and Classification carrying out necessary procedures to ensure proper identification. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force has maintained consistent communication with the families of the victims to provide support and information during this difficult period.

Authorities are also engaging with relevant agencies regarding environmental concerns raised by the host community. The Nigerian Air Force has appealed for continued public patience and understanding as investigators work diligently to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident and derive lessons to improve future flight safety.
