Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has called upon political leaders and stakeholders in the South-East region to abandon the tradition of permanent opposition politics. Speaking during a high-level stakeholder meeting held at the Government House in Owerri on Friday, the governor argued that continuous complaints of political deprivation will yield no tangible results unless the region adopts a more proactive approach toward the federal government.
Governor Uzodimma stressed that the broader Nigerian project remains paramount and requires the active participation of all geopolitical zones. He noted that other regions across the country routinely engage the central administration to negotiate tangible benefits and development projects for their constituents, leaving the South-East at a disadvantage when it persists in isolationist tendencies.
The governor urged stakeholders to put aside local political competitions and unite behind a strategic framework for negotiation. According to him, the region must compile a well-researched, evidence-based document outlining its primary developmental needs and present it directly to the presidency as a basis for constructive dialogue.
Highlighting recent political engagements, Uzodimma pointed out that leaders from various other zones have maintained active channels of communication with the nation's leadership. He maintained that regional governors and leaders must act collectively with the people to secure a stronger political future rather than relying on grievances that fail to deliver practical dividends.
