The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has commended the Nigerian Army for its intervention in the state educational sector, describing the recent upgrade of learning facilities as a significant boost to academic development. The commendation was delivered on Friday through the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, during the official inauguration and handover ceremony of the newly remodelled Ezomo Primary and Secondary Schools located in the Uzebu and Oliha quarters of Benin City.
The infrastructural overhaul was executed under the Nigerian Army Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation initiative and was commissioned by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu. Representing the state leadership, the deputy governor praised the military institution as a reliable development partner whose dedication to community welfare serves as a commendable example for other organizations.
During the event, Governor Okpebholo encouraged corporate bodies, wealthy indigenes, and private citizens to support public sector initiatives by investing in community development projects. He emphasized that achieving sustainable progress throughout Edo State requires a collaborative approach and urged stakeholders to align with his administration developmental objectives.
In his remarks, Lieutenant General Shaibu explained that the school intervention project was designed to improve physical educational facilities while fostering stronger, more positive relations between military personnel and civilian populations. He urged the state government, local community leaders, and school administrators to ensure proper maintenance of the newly delivered infrastructure to benefit current and future students.
The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Washington Osifo, also expressed appreciation for the military partnership, highlighting that the current state administration has prioritized educational revival by constructing and renovating over one hundred schools since taking office. According to the commissioner, the administration has supplied thousands of classroom chairs, recruited thousands of teachers, and introduced mobile science laboratories to enhance practical learning across public institutions.
