Former Senator Magnus Abe expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu following his appointment as Chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), describing the development as a renewed opportunity to contribute to national transformation in a critical sector of the economy.
President Tinubu had forwarded Abe’s name, alongside 20 other nominees, to the Senate for confirmation into the governing boards of the NUPRC and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), in what is seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight in the oil and gas industry.
In a statement issued on, Abe said his support for President Tinubu has always been guided by conviction rather than expectations of political reward. According to him, his belief in the President’s leadership style was rooted in the hope that Nigeria would experience meaningful change under his administration.
He stated that recent developments suggest that government policies are beginning to produce positive outcomes, adding that emerging economic indicators point to gradual improvement in the country’s overall direction. Abe commended described as Tinubu’s willingness to take difficult decisions aimed at repositioning the economy.
Describing his appointment as a privilege, the former senator said it presents him with the opportunity to serve the nation in a strategic sector that plays a central role in Nigeria’s revenue base. He added that the President has demonstrated trust in his capacity and competence by assigning him the responsibility.
Abe further praised Tinubu’s leadership approach, noting that the President has shown political maturity and an ability to earn confidence across party lines. He argued that the growing alignment around the administration does not amount to a one-party system, but rather reflects citizens’ confidence in credible leadership.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the administration’s reform agenda, stating that he would continue to align with policies he believes are in the national interest.
The former senator thanked Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, acknowledging his role in the 2023 general elections. credited Wike playing a significant part in securing Rivers State for ruling political bloc, describing him as a key contributor to emerging “renewed hope alignment” in state.
Abe said Wike’s political involvement had a lasting impact on the electoral outcome and continues to influence the stability of the governing structure in Rivers State.
