Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has restored Ohna Sergeant Awuse, the traditional ruler of Emohua Kingdom, to his position as the chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council. The directive was announced through an official statement released in Port Harcourt by Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, confirming that the appointment takes effect immediately.

The reinstatement of Awuse follows ongoing reconciliatory efforts involving political actors in the region, including discussions tied to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. Awuse had previously been removed from the leadership post in late 2024 by Governor Fubara, who cited prolonged absence due to health concerns as well as administrative grievances.

During the initial removal announcement at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the governor had criticized the council leadership over a 2024 calendar that omitted the photographs of both the governor and the deputy governor. At that time, Fubara appointed Eze Chike Worlu Wodon, the paramount ruler of Apara Kingdom, to take over the leadership responsibilities of the traditional council.

Observers note that the latest decision to bring back Awuse marks a significant shift in the political and traditional landscape of Rivers State. Traditional rulers hold considerable influence in bridging grassroots communities and the state administration, making leadership stability within the council a key priority for governance and peace.

State officials have emphasized that the renewed mandate aims to foster closer cooperation between traditional institutions and the executive arm of government. Awuse is expected to resume his duties immediately, guiding the council through its statutory responsibilities and strengthening administrative coordination across the state's traditional domains.
