Olam Agri Acquires Delta Land for New Feed Facility to Boost Regional Supply

Agricultural business firm Olam Agri has finalized the acquisition of 99.99 hectares of land located in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, with plans to construct a comprehensive animal feed processing facility. The strategic project is intended to diminish the South-South and South-East regions' heavy operational dependence on feed products transported from the South-West. Officials from the Delta State Government formally handed over the official Certificate of Occupancy during a ceremony held at the Government House in Asaba.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori emphasized during the presentation that the substantial private investment will foster substantial employment opportunities and accelerate overall agricultural expansion throughout the area. He reiterated the state administration's ongoing dedication to maintaining transparent regulatory processes and cultivating a hospitable commercial climate to attract global and domestic capital. Furthermore, the governor praised local traditional institutions and community leaders for preserving the peaceful environment required for sustainable industrial growth.

Managing Director Amit Agarwal explained that the company targeted the southern regions to bridge an existing distribution shortfall, noting that while Olam Agri previously established production plants in the South-West, positioning this new facility locally brings manufacturing much closer to the consumer base. Agarwal expressed gratitude to the state leadership and indicated eagerness to collaborate closely with government representatives, traditional leaders, and the local host population.

During the discussions, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Obi Ifechukwudi Okonjo II, formally requested that the corporate leadership prioritize residents of the host community for direct employment, structured internship roles, skills acquisition initiatives, and technology transfer programs. Agricultural analysts note that the incoming production plant is projected to reinforce the local poultry and livestock sectors significantly by lowering transportation expenditures and ensuring a steady, reliable feed supply for regional farmers.
