A lawyer and politician, Chief Robinson Ariyo, has formally urged President Bola Tinubu to launch an immediate investigation into the ongoing Warri delineation exercise. The call follows widespread allegations of financial inducements aimed at favoring specific areas over others, raising concerns over transparency and fair political representation in the region.

In a detailed statement, Ariyo requested the President to direct the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to provide an independent written legal opinion concerning the legality of the exercise. He emphasized the necessity of distinguishing between the delineation of electoral wards, State Constituencies, and Federal Constituencies to ensure adherence to constitutional provisions and statutory requirements.

Furthermore, the legal practitioner called for anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, to investigate suspicious financial inflows and dollar transactions. He alleged that these transactions might involve the financial inducement of political actors, public officers, electoral personnel, and security operatives.

Ariyo also advocated for an independent forensic audit of private surveillance contracts tied to oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta. He suggested that examining the beneficial ownership, disbursement records, and foreign-currency transactions of these contracts could shed light on potential public fund diversions linked to the current controversy.

To prevent escalation and protect local populations, the statement urged the National Security Adviser and relevant security agencies to ensure impartial security measures across Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas. Ariyo concluded by stressing that the federal government must foster inclusive stakeholder engagement involving traditional rulers and community representatives from all ethnic groups to prevent avoidable communal antagonism.
