Vice President Kashim Shettima launched a fresh political attack against opposition figure Peter Obi, asserting that political strategies and economic models from foreign nations cannot be directly replicated in Nigeria. Speaking at an All Progressives Congress campaign gathering in Akwa Ibom, Shettima addressed the growing political discourse leading up to the 2027 national elections.
Shettima contended that Obi relies heavily on abstract statistics and rhetorical charm rather than practical governance strategies. He specifically referenced comparisons often drawn between Nigeria and Bangladesh, stating that such parallels fail to account for distinct differences in population sizes, institutional maturity, and fundamental economic frameworks.
While noting personal respect for the former Anambra State governor, the Vice President argued that such regard does not qualify an opposition contender to lead the country. He dismissed competing economic proposals as lacking structural viability and cautioned voters against accepting simplistic solutions to complex national challenges.
The discussions also touched upon national economic policies, including fuel subsidy adjustments, with the administration defending its current economic trajectory. Supporters were urged to weigh domestic realities against conditions in neighboring states rather than focusing exclusively on short-term price fluctuations.
