President Bola Tinubu has commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his maturity and commitment to maintaining peace despite severe political tensions in the state. Speaking during an All Progressives Congress presidential campaign event in Port Harcourt, Tinubu lauded the governor for respecting leadership interventions and demonstrating democratic values.

The presidential endorsement follows a turbulent period in Rivers State politics that began in October 2023 due to a bitter dispute between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, over political control. The rift intensified significantly when federal authorities declared a six-month state of emergency in March 2025, temporarily suspending the governor, his deputy, and members of the state legislature.

Following the expiration of the emergency rule, Governor Fubara resumed office in September 2025, though legislative friction and subsequent impeachment threats periodically resurfaced into early 2026. High-level reconciliation efforts hosted by the presidency in Abuja and subsequent local meetings in Port Harcourt have since helped lower the political temperature between the warring factions.

Tinubu reiterated that the administration remains supportive of leaders who prioritize stability over conflict. He emphasized that the decision to embrace reconciliation would yield positive outcomes for the state as stakeholders work toward lasting harmony and governance continuity.
