Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the National Elective Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a strong signal of the party’s growing influence and national appeal.
Speaking with journalists at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Friday night, the governor said his decision to join the APC in April 2025 is already delivering tangible benefits for Delta State.
Oborevwori explained that his defection was motivated by the need to align the state with the federal government, a move he noted has improved access to resources and strengthened governance outcomes.
“I am happy to be here. The bold decision we took on April 28, 2025, is already manifesting. I was the first governor after the 2023 election to join the APC, and we did that to connect with the centre. Today, that connection is working, and others have followed,” he said.
He added that increased revenue allocation has enhanced states’ ability to meet obligations, including salary payments and infrastructure development.
According to him, the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are gradually producing results despite prevailing challenges.
“Before now, states struggled to pay salaries, but today we can meet our responsibilities and execute projects. The policies are working, though the process is gradual,” he said.
The governor also noted that APC now controls 31 states, describing it as unprecedented since 1999, and expressed confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security, while highlighting improved oil production and sustained peace in Delta State, and urged residents to continue supporting both federal and state governments in ongoing reforms.
