A tragic road accident in Delta State has claimed the life of a passenger, Esther Agboro, who succumbed to her injuries a day after a violent collision involving a commercial tricycle and a heavy-duty trailer. The fatal incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, at Iwhrekan Community within the Ughelli South Local Government Area, leaving the victim with severe bodily trauma.
According to accounts from the area, the commercial tricycle carrying the victim was allegedly being pursued near the Okwagbe Market before it suddenly veered and crashed into the oncoming trailer. The impact left all passengers in the tricycle unconscious and suffering from critical injuries. Medical intervention failed to save Agboro, who passed away the following day on Sunday, November 1.
The victim, originally from the Ijaw community of Okirika in Delta State, routinely traveled between towns for her commercial activities while being based in Asaba. Her sudden passing has cast a pall of grief over her relatives, particularly her eldest son, Agbaro Thankgod Ayibanugha, who had recently secured higher education admission after enduring a five-year wait.
Speaking on the tragedy, the grieving son expressed profound anguish, noting that the family was joyfully preparing to celebrate his long-awaited academic milestone when the accident abruptly shattered their household. Relatives gathered at a police station close to the General Hospital to complete necessary administrative formalities and secure documentation before transferring her remains to a mortuary.
In the wake of the incident, the bereaved family has formally demanded a comprehensive inquiry by authorities into the events leading up to the collision. Community members and relatives hope that a thorough examination will clarify the factors that caused the tricycle to collide with the trailer, bringing a measure of closure to the grieving family.
