Organisers of the Niger Delta Blue Economy Investment Summit have announced that the upcoming second edition aims to attract more than $600 million in investment capital into Nigeria's maritime and aquatic sectors. The three-day event is scheduled to take place from March 18 to 20, 2027, at Movela Hotels in Warri, Delta State.
Dr Uche Igwe, the co-convener of the summit, revealed the target during a briefing with journalists. He explained that the annual gathering seeks to bridge the gap between potential and actionable investments by convening leaders from government, the private sector, academia, civil society, and traditional institutions.
According to Igwe, the maiden edition held in February 2026 successfully established foundational partnerships and identified viable projects. The upcoming summit will focus heavily on making these projects bankable and exploring innovative financing tools, such as blue bonds, to mobilize the required funds.
Philemon Oghenedoro Adjekuko, a senior consultant at Gadfly Consulting Limited, emphasized the need for closer coordination among public and private stakeholders. He noted that developing the blue economy is crucial for supporting Nigeria's broader economic diversification goals and contributing to the non-oil sector.
The blue economy encompasses a wide range of economic activities connected to oceans, seas, rivers, and inland water resources. These include fisheries, aquaculture, maritime transportation, coastal tourism, shipbuilding, and marine renewable energy initiatives across the region.
