An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Edo State, Barrister Henry Idahagbon, has cautioned Governor Monday Okpebholo that his goal of delivering 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections is unrealistic unless internal party divisions are urgently resolved. Idahagbon expressed concern that simmering disunity and the perceived marginalization of several key political leaders could undermine the ruling party's electoral ambitions in the state.
Speaking in Benin City, the former state commissioner emphasized that elections rely fundamentally on numbers and collective mobilization rather than individual popularity. He noted that while he commended the governor's active campaigning efforts, the state chapter of the APC remains insufficiently united and requires deliberate reconciliation to bring alienated stakeholders back into the fold.
According to Idahagbon, who currently serves at the Federal Civil Service Commission, political leaders across the grassroots carry individual influence that contributes significantly to cumulative electoral success. He urged Governor Okpebholo to act as a unifying force by bringing all political factions together and guarding against the influence of sycophants who might isolate seasoned party members.
While acknowledging the governor's ongoing developmental initiatives in the state, Idahagbon stressed that winning the trust of the electorate demands both administrative performance and inclusive party governance. He expressed hope that active engagement with party faithful over the coming months would help bridge existing gaps and build the robust coalition necessary to meet the ambitious presidential voting target.
