Former Delta State Governor and 2023 vice presidential running mate Ifeanyi Okowa has detailed the reasons behind his decision to align with President Bola Tinubu's administration and support his re-election campaign. Speaking publicly at an All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Okowa stated that his political alignment shifted because he recognized the current administration's positive trajectory.
During his address to supporters at the rally, Okowa remarked that he had witnessed a new direction for the country and praised the administration for establishing what he described as a solid foundation for future development. He also cautioned against the reinstatement of the previous fuel subsidy regime, asserting that individuals who contributed to past economic difficulties should not be permitted to compromise the nation's future.
Several senior party figures also addressed the crowd during the campaign event. Senator Abdulaziz Yari, serving as the director general of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, outlined an ambitious electoral goal of securing 2.3 million votes for President Tinubu in Rivers State during the upcoming January election. Yari emphasized that this target was realistic given the volume of Permanent Voter Cards collected within the state.
Additional remarks came from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who highlighted the electoral history of Rivers State as a key area of support in the previous election cycle and expressed optimism for continued success. Other prominent party officials, including APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Senator Magnus Abe, also spoke in favor of the current leadership ticket and coalition efforts aimed at securing a strong mandate in the region.
