NDDC Seeks Partnership with Burna Boy towards Niger Delta Development

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has unveiled plans to collaborate with Grammy-winning Nigerian music star Burna Boy as part of efforts to fast-track development across the Niger Delta region.

The initiative was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the globally acclaimed artiste, born Damini Ogulu, to the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt. The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to addressing longstanding socio-economic and infrastructural challenges affecting communities in the oil-rich region.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to fulfilling its development mandate. He announced that the agency would undertake the construction of an access road to the artiste’s hometown in Ahoada West Local Government Area, alongside other targeted projects designed to improve living standards in surrounding communities.

Ogbuku emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in driving sustainable growth, urging Burna Boy to harness his international influence to attract investors and development opportunities to the Niger Delta. He also encouraged the artiste to consider hosting major entertainment events in Port Harcourt, noting that such initiatives could stimulate local economic activity and create employment opportunities.

Describing Burna Boy as a valuable ambassador of the region, Ogbuku called on him to inspire young people through positive engagement and community-focused initiatives. He stressed that collaboration between influential figures and development agencies could yield meaningful progress.

In his response, Burna Boy expressed willingness to work closely with the Commission to promote sustainable development, particularly within his community. He drew attention to critical infrastructure gaps, including poor road networks, limited healthcare services, and inadequate access to clean water, urging the NDDC to prioritize these areas.

Also speaking, his father, Samuel Ogulu, commended the Commission’s leadership for its ongoing development efforts and encouraged sustained commitment to impactful projects.

Other officials present at the meeting included Boma Iyaye and Ifedayo Abegunde.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by Seledi Thompson-Wakama on March 18, 2026.
