The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has successfully trained 500 youths from the nine Niger Delta states in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) autogas conversion, reinforcing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s clean energy agenda.
The six-week programme, held at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, equipped participants with hands-on skills in vehicle conversion, system maintenance, and safety standards, aligned with global best practices.
Addressing the graduates, NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, described CNG as a cleaner, safer, and more cost-effective fuel alternative. He emphasised that the Commission’s intervention complements the Federal Government’s Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI). “Our goal is to make the Niger Delta a hub for CNG conversion and training, creating jobs while supporting the President’s vision of leveraging Nigeria’s gas resources for economic growth,” he said.
Ogbuku added that the initiative would enable technology transfer, strengthen local manufacturing, and expand opportunities for youths and women, while promoting environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, commended NDDC for aligning with the national clean energy programme, noting that it would transform the region’s energy sector.
NDDC Executive Director, Projects, Dr Victor Antai, highlighted the growing demand for skilled CNG technicians and the potential for economic growth through local transport and automotive services.
In related developments, the Commission pledged collaboration with Nigerian music ambassador Burna Boy to drive community development in Rivers State and across the Niger Delta. It also provided relief materials to flood-affected residents of Ayakoro community in Bayelsa State, demonstrating a commitment to humanitarian support and sustainable regional development.
Through these initiatives, the NDDC continues to complement Federal Government policies, empower youths, and advance President Tinubu’s vision of a cleaner, economically vibrant, and technologically advanced Niger Delta.
