The Kogi State Police Command has initiated a full-scale investigation into the deaths of two law enforcement personnel assigned to the Ajaokuta Police Division. The tragic incident, which involved officers Amos Yusuf and Grace Onimisi, occurred while both were deployed on night duty.

According to an official statement released by the command spokesperson, Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the fatal shooting took place on Friday, October 23. Preliminary details indicate that Amos Yusuf allegedly shot his female colleague before using an AK-47 rifle to take his own life.

Following the incident, both officers were rushed to separate medical facilities for urgent intervention. However, attending medical personnel pronounced them dead upon arrival. Their bodies have since been transferred to the mortuary at ASCO Hospital for preservation.

Authorities recovered one AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges from the scene of the tragedy. The case has subsequently been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department to uncover the underlying cause and full circumstances surrounding the event.

While unverified reports have circulated regarding a personal dispute between the officers, police authorities have urged the public to refrain from premature speculation. The command emphasized that the official motive remains unestablished pending the conclusion of the ongoing inquiry.
