A prominent traditional ruler in the Federal Capital Territory has appealed to federal and state authorities to prioritize the establishment of specialized tertiary healthcare facilities across every state in the country. The Sa’Peyi of Garki, Alhaji Dr Usman Nga Kupi, made the appeal during a visit by a delegation from the West African College of Physicians. The delegation was in the area ahead of a free community medical outreach organized to mark the institution's golden jubilee anniversary.

Addressing the medical professionals, the monarch voiced strong concerns regarding the continued reliance of many citizens on foreign medical destinations such as India, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Egypt, and the United States. He noted that seeking specialized treatment overseas imposes a severe financial drain on individuals and the national economy while exposing patients to the physical strains and risks of long-distance travel.

Recalling past decades when regional health institutions attracted patients from outside the country, the traditional leader questioned the systemic and environmental factors responsible for the decline in local healthcare standards. He urged the West African College of Physicians to foster strategic partnerships with governments, medical practitioners, and prominent philanthropists to mobilize resources for modern medical infrastructure.

During the anniversary events, the college organized outreach activities at the Waru community primary school, providing health education, consultations, and treatments for common ailments. Medical personnel also conducted minor surgical procedures for selected residents suffering from conditions such as hernias, lipomas, and hydroceles. College leadership reaffirmed its regional commitment to elevating professional training standards and expanding healthcare access across linguistic divides in West Africa.
