Athletes from Delta, Abia, and Rivers states have earned qualification tickets to represent Nigeria at the upcoming Teqball World Championship scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary. The national selection events concluded on Saturday at the Aba Sports Club, drawing participation from fourteen states across the country to compete in various categories including men and women singles and doubles.
Delta State dominated the final medal standings by securing three gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal. The state's stellar performance was anchored by top-ranked tequer Victor Oyemade, who claimed the men singles title by defeating fellow Delta athlete Mikel Enebechukwu in straight sets. In the women singles division, Rejoice Jatau of Delta State captured the championship after overcoming compatriot Efemena Ekeke.
Abia State finished second on the overall medal table with one gold and two silver medals, boosted by a notable victory in the women doubles event where Aganmuyi Omokehinde and Mariam Abdulasheed triumphed over Delta representatives. Meanwhile, Rivers State secured its representation through the men doubles pair of Joshua Musa and Ikoko Andrew, who mounted a comeback victory against Abia opponents in a tightly contested three-set match.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, state sports officials praised the successful hosting of the qualifying event and urged the winning athletes to maintain high standards when competing on the global stage. The victorious competitors are set to travel to Budapest in December to face international opponents at the global championship.
