The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has promised to build a solar-powered Common Facility Centre in Aba. The proposed industrial hub is intended to assist local leather and garment workers by providing access to advanced manufacturing machinery. Anosike announced the initiative during a campaign tour in the commercial hub, where he met with representatives of local production clusters representing over two hundred thousand members.

The candidate explained that the facility would enable small and local entrepreneurs, including young shoemakers and tailors who lack capital, to produce international-standard finished goods. According to his campaign proposal, artisans would be able to use advanced equipment at a minimal cost to complete orders for customers. He noted that the concept mirrors similar developmental projects executed by federal agencies in other parts of the country, aimed at lowering production barriers for small businesses.

Anosike referenced a past federal and international partnership project established in Aba in 2008 by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, which was subsequently abandoned by successive administrations. He stated that his administration would revive the initiative as a core empowerment strategy. In addition to the shared facility, he promised to set up a dedicated microfinance bank to provide financial assistance and interest-free loans to help local traders scale up production and reduce reliance on imported goods.

The campaign focuses on what the candidate describes as productive welfarism, an approach centered on human capital development alongside physical infrastructure. Anosike criticized current administrative policies regarding taxation on low-income earners and argued that increased federal allocations should translate into tangible welfare improvements for residents facing economic challenges.

Representatives of the artisan groups welcomed the developmental proposals during the engagement session. The National Secretary of the Aba Leather and Garment Clusters, Mr. Ken Anyanwu, highlighted the sector's contribution to regional commerce and expressed frustration over perceived government neglect despite the high quality of local manufacturing. Several party officials and legislative candidates accompanied the campaign team to encourage local support ahead of the polls.
